Adanna Duru – “Imposter”feat. Amir Kelly | @adannaduru |

“Imposter”, featuring Amir Kelly, highlights the discrepancy that often arises between people’s words and actions. The song is a call and response of sorts, Adanna criticizing men who verbally offer her world, when their reality seems to contradict that. Amir responds, playing the role of the imposter, trying to persuade Adanna that he is who he says. The song taps into Adanna’s Nigerian roots instrumentally and lyrically as she widens her range within the Pop/RnB community.

Adanna Duru represents what she calls the “regular” black girl. Despite the many difficulties that came with growing up in a single parent household, she lived a fairly privileged life in the suburbs of Southern California. As a result, Adanna is able to see through the lens of multiple perspectives.

Although Adanna is a first generation American, with parents that emigrated from Nigeria, her influences stem from disco and Top 40. ABBA, Michael Jackson, and Britney Spears still have a large impact on Adanna’s music. Her debut EP, Stardive, has had critical acclaim from EARMILK, RnBass, AXS, etc. and collaborators range from Grammy award winning production duo, Wildope, and Liam Keegan (Sia, Kanye West, Justin Bieber). Adanna has also had previous success on The Voice and American Idol, reaching the top 10 at only 18 years old.
