Antone is dropping clouds of knowledge with the internal HAARP-word machine we will soon be calling his mind. A senior-year Brown University student in Literary Arts, Antone raps really fast and he’s really good at it. His lyrical precision upon each seemingly-endless breath will leave the listener questioning a previous line while simultaneously laughing at the punchline of the current bar he’s delivering. Gaining musical and spiritual inspiration from artists such as Andre 3000, Bob Marley, Donald Glover, Erykah Badu, and Yasiin Bey, Antone’s unique blend of 90’s hiphop with the hard thump of today’s musical atmosphere makes for a reminiscent-yet-refreshing listening experience. But I have to be real here: He sounds like a fast-rapping Snoop Dogg and Kendrick Lamar gave birth to a rap prodigy who can also sing.
Antone began writing raps in fifth grade. By Junior year of high school he continued to write poetry and started performing live in Baton Rouge. In Fall 2014 he was accepted at Brown University. He has continued his rap career while simultaneously working towards an honors degree with his friends and fellow musical entrepreneurs in their collective known as Diaspora. He hopes to be able to make music and enough money to support himself and his family. This current project is well worth a listen, and will prove in its short 3-song length his versatility and the depth of his skill.
“I rap about what I rap about because there’s too many lies and bullshit in the world. I’ve always seen music as a form of resistance. I feel like I’ve been blessed with a gift to be able to share my knowledge with people. I’m trying to spread truth.” The project has two featured artists: Saleka Night (@salekanight), who delivers smooth background vocals throughout the track “Honey” and KelKeyz (@kelkeyz), who bolsters the chorus of “Tell-Tale” with harmonies and extra vocal dynamics. The beats on the project are produced by Shepard (@shapeardsounds).
