Ramping up 20,000 spins on his first day, Landing major Spotify playlists New Music Friday AU&NZ and debuting on national radio ZM, Ashley Alexander jumps off the sidelines and into the limelight bouncing back with his second single Nicotine, a soul drenched R&B number paying homage to the sound of the 2000s.
With a dramatic jazz laced orchestration, funk rooted baselines and a trademark falsetto, the newcomer embellishes a sense of musicality and maturity whilst toiling with the bittersweet nature of adult life.
Keeping ones ego outside of peripheral vision, Ashley Alexander invites us in to a more intimate perspective, unpacking love and the polarising effect we have on each other as human beings.
“A lot of us want to fit in, a lot of us want to stand out and they’re two very different things. For so long I felt torn between what truly mattered. Thinking back, in the midst of everything love really came through for me, like stripping outdated wallpaper and applying a new lick of paint a person can reinvent what life means to you. Life can be pretty unfair but love levels the playing field”.
“Nicotine” will be released June 7th as part of his debut project “Staring at the sun for too long” dropping later this year. With tour dates and more releases to come, Ashley is set for the busiest orbit around the sun yet.
