Saskatoon’s busiest rapper, Ev Thompson, brings us another new joint to start November. This time with a song produced by, and featuring a Canadian rap legend, Vancouver’s own Moka Only. Ev and Moka first met back in the mid 90’s as Saskatoon’s hip-hop scene began to take shape, and they take us on a trip back in time with this new song entitled ‘Ricky Chip$ with Yung Je$$e’.
Ev has been blazing his own trail across Canada, America and European hip-hop scenes over the last 5 or 6 years. This past year alone he has released 6 music videos, 9 singles, a 12 track LP, toured Western Canada with Jarren Benton (Roc Nation, StillMovin), toured and played a festival in Europe, had a song licensed for film, starred in an indie film, and played most of the bigger hip-hop shows to touch his home town.
‘The new song is fun, lyrically tight and still swagged out. Ev blesses the track with a melodic hook, and the beat comes courtesy of Moka Only. With a soulful sound, and the lofi warmth of the crackle from the original sample, listeners are treated to a sound that merges generations of hip-hop. This is another song that was mixed by one of Saskatchewan’s finest engineers, Chris Douglas (Toneshift Audio). Mastering duties were handled by another hip-hop veteran Rel McCoy.
The new single comes 4 weeks after Ev’s last single with Toronto MC Fortunato, as he continues to knock out new music with some of raps finest underground names coast to coast. It is available on all streaming platforms, and all digital stores.
