2020 started with a BANG and Coronavirus (aka COVID-19) made a very ungracious entrance into our lives. The pandemic has caused millions of people around the world to be locked in their homes, social distancing, and teleworking. Schools are closed, children now need 100 meals a day in the house (yes we have to feed them now), and they also need to be entertained. Let us also remember, we can’t just “send them outside” like its 1989 on their bikes to the baseball field or pool.
So what can we do instead of contracting Cabin Fever along with Coronavirus? We have compacting a list of activities to keep you and your kiddos safe and entertained as we ride this pandemic out.
Whether your old school or a Gen-Z, social media is the place to be right now because it’s the #1 place to socialize during the pandemic. But the problem lies with people spreading false information to scare others during a time like this. Trolls are at an all time high, and we all know people don’t actually click on articles or check for reliable resources on information. Do you know how many TheOnion articles have been shared on my timeline from people over the age of 40 with prayer hand emojis??
There are PLENTY of things to keep yourself entertained so you don’t die in your home eaten by cats with a bottle of vodka in your hand.
Enjoy a Virtual Concert or Broadway Show
The Metropolitan Opera has released a statement on their website providing free encore presentations.
“Each day, a different encore presentation from the company’s Live in HD series is being made available for free streaming on the Met website, with each performance available for a period of 23 hours, from 7:30 p.m. EDT until 6:30 p.m. the following day. The schedule will include outstanding complete performances from the past 14 years of cinema transmissions, starring all of opera’s greatest singers.”
Follow your favorite celebrities. Many of them are providing free concerts right from their living rooms. For Example watch Neil Diamond remix Sweet Caroline for his fans.
A Virtual World
Also if you own an Oculus Quest, Rift, or Go for virtual reality, life just got that much better for you. Head over to YouTube VR or Facebook (who owns Oculus) and attend activities from sports, concerts, or just social events. (Yes you can create your own avatar and adventure in virtual reality).
Hit the Club with DJ D-Nice
2. If your the clubbing type….head over to Club Quarantine with DJ D-Nice. Last weekend the online social distancing club hit over 100K party-goers with so many celebs in the virtual building. From Justin Timberlake to Bernie Sanders to former First Lady Michelle Obama to Dj Khaled to Janet Jackson and Rihanna (YES RIHANNA!). Follow his Instagram below to check for the next party!
More of the quiet type? Read some audio books!
Audible Books is now providing FREE books for you and the kiddos during this time. Starting Saturday, Audible is offering free streams on a select number of children’s stories across six languages to keep kids “dreaming, learning, and just being kids.” Books are separated into six categories: “Littlest Listeners,” “Elementary,” “Tween,” “Teen,” “Literary Classics” and “Folk & Fairy Tales for All.” And, yes there are plenty of free adult books available as well.
Peloton is offering new users a 90-day trial (YES 90 DAYS). The best part is you don’t have to own that expensive bike you see in the commercials to participate in physical activities. Some activities require no equipment at all like like yoga and high-intensity interval training (HIIT).
Golds Gym is offering free access to its app, Goldsamp, until the end of May, where more than 600 audio and video workouts along with DJ mixes get you ready to work up a sweat. Planet Fitness is offering “Home Work-Ins” streamed live at 7 p.m.
These are just a few things to keep you and the family busy for the time being. As a well-known introvert this is a walk in the park for me. We will be updating this list as we find more cool things to do. Until then…wash your hands and stay safe!
