“Ever wonder how electronic music would sound if it originated from South-Asia?”
SÄFAR’ is an artistic endeavor started in 2019 by a Canadian songwriter/producer named ‘Rish’ who moved from India at the age of 9. ‘SÄFAR’, which means ‘Journey’ in Hindi, is meant to be a point of reference for any-one listening to his music. Influenced by sounds while roaming in crowded streets and travelling in trains from city to city in India. It’s meant to give context and color to the delicacy of the sitar and the heart throbbing sound of the tabla. The focus for ‘SÄFAR’ has not only been about music, but also the art direction. Art is meant to give each song context and a visual representation of the music.
‘SÄFAR’ has released originals called “Sitara” and “Samay”, which received thousands of plays on streaming platforms under his previous alias Nmaste. He has also done remixes for acts such as ODESZA and Ellie Goulding. He remixed the song ‘Line of Sight’ by ODESZA and Mansionair, which got recognized by Mansionair on Soundcloud. He recently released another remix for GRYFFIN and Elley Duhe, for their ground-breaking track, ‘Tie Me Down’, which received immense amount of support on Instagram and Twitter. The album art was done by a phenomenal artist from Pakistan named Abdal Mufti, who loved the music when he was originally approached by Rish on Instagram for a collaboration. In October SAFAR plans to release another for a really special artist, which will be the perfect song for the Fall season. SÄFAR’s Tie Me Down remix has been recognized by Vancity Music and Vancity Studio, two of the biggest music blogs and music communities in Vancouver.
