Ric Flo, MAEAR and Tony Bones have spent the last two years redefining soulful hip-hop; the sound is bigger, more thought-provoking, and has matured with a rich soulful underpinning. Having already announced their second full-length LP entitled ‘Full Circle’ (due out on Mr Bongo Records September 27th), the trio are set to drop their second single from it.
‘Ikoja’ features west London vocalist Eldé who lends her blissfully golden voice to the bouncy and uplifting party jam. Somewhat of a departure from the boom bap production they are known for, ‘Ikoja’ provides a hint of what to expect from the album, as producer Tony Bones introduces trap, house and more alternative influences to their hip hop brew. The track also features long time collaborator and UK jazz all-star, Ayo The Yung Afrika Pyoneer who this time adds his influence via a jazzy flute section.
‘Ikoja’ will be released on 9th August – the same day as Jungle Brown and Mr Bongo release 300 limited edition 7 inch double a-side vinyl copies of ‘Keep It Movin’ and ‘We On Ft. Sampa The Great’ – both tracks taken from the album. They celebrate the double release at Rough Trade East the following day, as they perform live as part of Mr Bongo’s 30th Anniversary Party on 10th August.

‘Ikoja’ follows much loved previous single ‘Keep It Movin’ which gained spins from BBC 6’s Music Lauren Laverne, BBC 1Xtra’s Mistajam, BBC Radio 1’s Benji B and Kiss Fresh’s Shortee Blitz. It was also endorsed by Loyle Carner who said on Twitter “Keep It Moving is my jam”, as well as support from Complex UK and numerous Spotify playlists.
On the road Jungle Brown have shared the stage with the likes of De La Soul, Ghostface Killah, Lowkey, Akala and Donaeo, and have played major festivals including Glastonbury, Boomtown and Lovebox as well as a huge number of clubs shows across the UK. Their debut album ‘Flight 314’ boasts more than a million streams and spent much of 2016 in Apple Music’s ‘Best of 2016’ category, featuring on various Spotify playlists and visuals on SB.TV. They were also requested to curate an exclusive playlist for Tidal and attracted attention from New York with Beats 1’s very own, Ebro.
