Paco Versailles have joined the Village to bring their uplifting vibes to the world. This sublime duo have crafted their version of French-disco-meets-flamenco to create the beguiling sounds of Dancemenco. Paco Versailles, created by guitarist/composer Vahagni and songwriter/producer Ryan Merchant, blends flamenco guitar, disco-leaning electronic production, and captivating vocals to raise your spirits and get you grooving.
Paco Versailles are kicking off the summer with their single “Unwind,” a slow-burner that harnesses a swanky energy. Rhythmic guitar sets the pace, disco-infused synths set the mood, and the irresistibly catchy chorus “I think we’re moving too fast” embeds itself into your head. Paco Versailles have created a smooth and funky jam for those warm summer nights.
The duo first crossed paths back in 2016 when Vahagni joined Ryan’s band Capital Cities as lead guitarist on a number of tours. The kindred spirits quickly became friends, discovering a shared outlook on life and art and a deep appreciation for Spanish culture. Through subconscious co-creation, the seeds of Dancemenco were planted.
However, it wasn’t until 2019 that Paco Versailles was born. An opportunity arose for the two friends to put together a short live set for a party Ryan was throwing in LA. Without thinking too much, they got in the studio and worked out three tunes to be played live as a way to test out a notion that it would be amazing to mix flamenco guitar with vocals and dance productions. Very quickly their signature sound emerged.
The name Paco Versailles was conceived while imagining a collaboration between the duo’s biggest influences – the legendary Spanish guitarist Paco de Lucia and French electronic artists Daft Punk and Air, both products of the Parisian suburb of Versailles.
