Shy shy shy

Back in 2014 Danish indie pop duo Shy shy shy released their first song Do Not Ask. It was accompanied by the most charming video showing an everyday flirt over liquorice pipes and soap bubbles made by the aspiring young director Anna Emma Haudal. Now they are back with a new collaboration. Haudal is the screenwriter and director of the new Danish TV-series, Doggystyle, airing in Denmark, Finland and Norway this November and Shy shy shy have written music for it. The duo already released the first song of the collaboration, Sober, and today they revile the title track, “Doggystyle (Pretty Please)”.

“We really loved working with Anna Emma the first time around and we’ve been talking about doing it again ever since. That’s why we immediately said yes when she called us up this spring and asked us to write the title track for her new show. We wrote a few demos, crossed our fingers and sent them to her in the hopes that she would like one of them. She loved all of them and we ended up recording three new songs for the series.”

Doggystyle (Pretty Please)” is about obsessing over getting someone to love you to the point where everything you do and say is designed to gain the other persons affection. It is lonely and it is humiliating. It is a quiet hope and it is a desperate scream for attention that reaches an almost religious high in the last chorus where the gospel choir sets in.

All the new songs are produced by Morten Søgaard, who is best known for his solo project, ”Masasolo” and mixed by Brian Batz who, in addition to his own band”Sleep Party People”, has worked with numerous Danish indie artists. The same could be said about Brian Mørk who did the masters. Together with Shy shy shy these three people have created a handful of song that stand on the shoulders of the honest songwriting swept in synthesizers that the band is known for but with a more explicit contrast between simplicity and grandeur than we have heard from them in the past.
