New villager Skyler Stonestreet is coming in hot. The L.A. resident’s new single “Everything It Wasn’t” is a flirty and invigorating pop gem that reflects on the dual responsibility of failure in a relationship. Combining Skyler’s top notch songwriting skills with masterful production (co-produced by Nick Monson and Lauren Christy), “Everything It Wasn’t” embodies the dark, the light, and the in-between.
Skyler reveals the whirlwind that was her relationship in this forthright single. The airy production in “Everything It Wasn’t” juxtaposes the dark nature of the raw lyrics where we see the breakdown that comes after being pushed to your edge.
Explaining the dichotomy of sound and verse, Skyler says, “He became something he wasn’t and I became something I wasn’t. But there were good times, and I wanted to hold onto the good moments.”
Being no newcomer to the music scene with numerous hit tracks under her belt, Stonestreet has co-written and sung on Dua Lipa’s multi-platinum single “IDGAF,” The Chainsmokers’ “Kanye,” and has written songs for artists such as Marshmello (“Chasing Colors”), Sabrina Carpenter (We’ll Be The Stars”) and many more.
Stonestreet’s debut single “Bankrupt” won the attention from the likes of Popdust, Ones To Watch, and more. Billboard wrote, “With another banger in the bank, it’s only a matter of time before Stonestreet starts cashing in.”
