DNES Marketing’s marquee event – the SXSW Takeover – made it’s return to Austin, TX last week, presenting three stages full of Hip-Hop performances over three days offering a range for fans of all ages and tastes.
Taking place on March 13th and 15th respectively, the Nxt Gen Takeover and the Heavyweight Takeover showcased some the brightest, most buzzworthy newcomers including FreeWiFi, Dax Mpire, Maxo Kream, and more; some, like Ugly God and 24HRS making a much deserved return appearance at the annual concert series, showing an impressive amount of growth from their previous performances.
While the Nxt Gen Takeover served to introduce it’s crop of young performers, the Heavyweight Takeover stage, sponsored by New Era, was a celebration of artists whose names are already ringing bells across the Hip-Hop world. Following performances by IDK, Maxo Kream, SOBxRBE, Tierra Whack and more, headliner Carnage took the stage showing exactly what has made his transition from the EDM world back to Hip-Hop so seemless.
Since 2008, DNES Marketing’s SXSW Takeover has delivered some of the biggest Hip-Hop moments at SXSW including the 2012 Shady 2.0 Showcase featuring 50 Centand Eminem and the 2013 Mass Appeal Ice Cream Social featuring Kendrick Lamarand Bun B and 2014’s Mass Appeal x Grooveshark SXSW Takeover featuring Nas, Flying Lotus and more.
